I'M NOT READY TO LEAVE PHILADELHIA!

On Tuesday, September 17th we celebrated National Constitution Day by traveling as an 11th grade class to Philadelphia.  On this date in 1787, more delegates signed the newly formed constitution than any other day during the forming of our union.  At that time, they were unsure what kind of country they would get. They hoped they were creating something new.  They hoped they were creating a place where men could have rights and be free from their oppressor.  Unfortunately, there were whispers of injustice in terms of freedom for slaves and women.  Nonetheless, our founding fathers participated in this experiment of democracy for better or for worse.

10 points - Write a paragraph or more explaining how our trip to Philadelphia to see the National Constitution Center, Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, helped you gain a better understanding of our democracy and/or our country.
10 points - React to two other students' posts (write a thoughtful , thorough response.  Don't just say you like what they said, explain what you like about it.

I believe our trip to Philadelphia provided a better understanding of our democracy and country. Our tour guide, Joe, talked about the history of the Pennsylvania State House (Independence Hall). He described the struggles our Fore Fathers went through to become a better and independent country. Additionally, the show at the Sidney Kimmel Theater taught me more about events that occurred during the 1700s. These events gave me a different viewpoint on our American history.

This field was great because we learned a lot about the independence hall, the liberty bell and the amendments and the bill or rights. we walked to the buildings and answered questions while exploring then we ate at the food court and the food was good but expensive. then we went to a show and learn more about the preamble then we left Philadelphia.

The trip was very informational and interactive at the same time. The tour we took gave a new perspective. It allowed me to learn better by feeling like I was there. I also learned a few fun-facts like the Liberty Bell weighs a little over 2,000 pounds and that Ohio's state flag is the only flag that isn't in the shape of a rectangle.

Yesterday on our trip to Philly I had a good time and I learned a lot. One this we did yesterday was go to the Independence hall. In there I learned that in one of those exact rooms was where America was started what I mean by that is that's where the constitution was signed at. After we left that location we walked a bit and visited Benjamin Franklin where I learned that he wasn't even born in Philly, he was born in Boston. Another thing I learned from the trip yesterday was that a lot happened with the government that basically made America the way it is today. I learned a lot about our country yesterday and about the state I live in.

Our trip to Philadelphia was helpful to my knowledge of the history of our constitution and about the independence hall. I learned a lot of new things like Tennessee's state flag having 3 stars, the liberty bell weighing just over a ton, and more. The trip was fun and but the experience and being in a new environment was the best thing about it.

Visiting Philadelphia yesterday has provided me with a better understanding of our democracy and how the constitution came about. Going into the Independence Hall as well as the Liberty were the most fascinating to me. Seeing and getting to learn about how the liberty bell gained it's importance throughout history and it's meaning today. The liberty bell represents many symbols and meanings such as freedom, unity, equality and so much more.In summary, the trip to Philadelphia was exciting as well as interesting to learn more about what made our nation a more better union.

  12. Yesterday's Philadelphia trip allowed me to better understand how our country was formed, because of our trip to the Independence Hall. When our tour guide told us the tales of how our forefathers overcame struggles from beneath the foot of King Henry III. I was able to understand that the men who first formed our country, remained undeterred to do so. Being that they wanted both freedom, and the ability to explore and build upon the "new land" that is America!

The trip to Philadelphia was an eye-opening experience to understand the importance of the experiment the Founding Fathers made in attempt to create a society where people can be free from British oppressors and have rights of their own that would come to be our Constitution. Throughout the different visits I began to really have an idea of what our forefathers sacrificed to create a union in a time where our country was hardly a country at all. It really just goes to show how badly our country wanted a chance at independence and a new life of our own bringing greater significance to important symbols such as the Liberty Bell or historical locations such as Independence hall still being maintained today. Having this trip was an important experience for us to realize how much we had to lose and what we would have missed out if our Founding Father's never made that leap of faith which became the deciding factor in the future of our country.

  15. The trip that I went on yesterday really made me sad to be an American. Americans white wash everything and make everything seem so sunny when its really not. When i went to the museum it made me think "where were the black people this time" then I remembered "oh we were slaves ". The tour guide talked about how during that time that everyone loved and had respect for each other and treated each other equally. All i could think about at the time was all the stolen people and all the indigenous people who's land literally got stolen from them. I liked going to Philly though it was beautiful but the food wasn't that good. xoxo -nia burston

Another thing i learn what happen to the bell and how the ball got that big crack. The crack is because the metal was to bittle it crack on the first test flight it was recast two times. One more thing is that Pennsylvania is misspelled like this "Pensylvania".

Our trip to Philladelphia was great, and I learned and saw plenty of things. My favorite thing to see was the liberty bell. The transportation fulfilled me on the history of how the bell used to be such a prized possession within the country, a target to steal. I also learned about the journey of democracy within America through the independence hall. The cheese steaks there were amazing, I can't wit to visit again.

They had to debate the Declaration of Independence, the constitution, etc. all in the same building. I also learned that we fought for democracy by even degrading the king's coat of arms.
