•Consider the following questions.  What provisions is the new law limiting?  What is being asked of people to bring to polls to be able to vote?  Why is the US justice department against this law?  Do you think this law (limiting voting) is a good idea or a bad idea?

  1. The summary of this story is about the justice department suing North Carolina for having a restrictive voting law that requires a photo to vote and special ID which thousands of minorities don't have. It will take affect in the 2016 election.

I think it is a good idea because every vote count and if certain groups of people can't vote, it would be unfair. The US justice department is against this law because it shows discrimination to minorities

The Justice Department is suing North Carolina over that state's restrictive new voting law. They said they need special voter id to vote from now, which more then 300,000 minority lack. They said that Justice Department is allowed to sue the federal government if they violate their voting rights. If they find that intentional discrimination then they are allow to sue. i feel pretty bad that government is trying to stop minority from voting, it's their county too, they should be allow to vote without any trouble.

  3. Listening to what was said on the clip is that in North Carolina has set up a restricted voting system that have specific requirements that only really hurt the minorities and elderly in the changes.
My personal reaction is that things like this do not surprise me because the government is always doing things like this but no one really pays attention because there is always some type of distraction happening at the same time but it is a very sad situation.

    1. I agree with you, the government is always making distractions when they are doing something they know is unconstitutional. For example for February they had the Grammys, the Superbowl and the All Star basketball game all in one month to distract us from realizing and celebrating Black History. - Taryana Peterson

  4. North Carolina is the first state to propose this new law on voting. The law insists of NC cutting back early voting, eliminating first day registration, and voters have to have a special voting I.D. 300,000 residents in residing in North Carolina don't have or lack this I.D, majority being minorities. The 1965 voting right act allows citizens to sue if voters are being discriminated against, and this is the case in NC. - Taryana Peterson

  5. Basically, the state of North Carolina is being sued for the new regulations they have on voting. These regulations limit same day registration and make it a requirement for everybody to have ID when going in to vote.

I feel as though this is a very petty problem for a state to have. Unless North Carolina has repeated issues of voting fraud or something of the sort, then getting rid of same day registration and forcing people to have ID is way to dramatic. - Orrion

  6. In the clip I heard the reporter say that North Carolina was the first state to pass a voter restriction law. It also surprised me that everyone didn't understand the concept of having an approved I.D in order to vote. The new law is limiting voters the right to vote if they don't meet the requirements. I think the law is a bad idea because every vote counts and if you prevent others from voting you very well may elect a dictator. - Raven

i heard in the audio clip is that they talk about how people need government ID in order to vote. I think this law is bad idea because not everyone have government ID to prove that they are the right person to vote. this law is good for some people and bad for some people.

The voice of one person is quiet, but the voice of many surely carries through. That is why corrupted officials come up with ways to silence the voices of the people, and convince them that their vote isn't important when it actually is.

  10. The law of North Carolina is limiting those who can vote by limiting how many minorities can vote. People are asking for more time to vote due to the minorities that lack transportation. The US Justice department is against this because it is discriminating against the minorities. This is a bad idea because not everyone can vote due to the fact that everybody can't get an ID, like those who are much older, that don't have one. Also, a lot of African-Americans don't have the ID. So I think is a bad Idea. Manuel E. Valera

  11. The audio was about how the voters should have certain unnecessary requirements to vote like to have state ID. The votes in Florida are messed up but should be fixed by the year 2016. My reaction is that I think it is absurd to have all these requirement needed to vote and they are just making it more difficult for minorities. If any citizen of the United States is working and paying taxes they should just as easily be able to vote like any other person. ~Leah

  12. The video explained how the justice department sues North Carolina over the voter ID Law. In order to vote, people are required to bring their IDs, eliminates same-day registration and pre-registration for students as young as 16, and cuts the early-voting period from 17 to 10 days. I feel like this is the same case as the previous Texas situation. I believe this limiting voting is a bad idea because they are taking way too much control. It isn't fair to others who wants to vote. -Safriani Adnan

  13. Well from what I heard she is suing North Carolina for basically making it so that black people can not vote. It also sounded like the lady was very upset over there discussion that her and the guy were having together.

My reaction to the video was that this stuff that is happening to innocent Americans is bad, plus I thought that Florida was the only state that had that problem with having black people vote. -AaMIrr

  14. From what gathered the same thing happened in North Carolina and in Palm Beach Florida back in 2000. Basically there were voters rights that were being violated and minorities were the victims. There were no early voting no same day voting and they had to have I.D. Which they knew would be difficult for older minorities because they might not have I.D or birth certificate

  15. In the audio it talks about new laws against voting early and the types of identification a person may need to do so. some of these forms of identification people may not have which affects an individuals ability to vote. For example, minorities and elderly people may not have the chance to vote early because they do not have those types of ID's or it may be costly for certain people. - Angela Harris

The audio talked about how the law requires voters to show some type of photo ID at the polls and other requirements. Also saying many states have already passed laws saying voters should show identification.

I agree. Voters should have to show ID if they want to vote. Carrying/having an ID shows responsibility and it's not asking of much. I think that if someone believes their vote is that important they will just follow the laws.

  17. The justice Department is suing North Caroline because of new voting law. The lawsuit limits early voting periods and require a government photo ID. The states decision to cut back on early voting period.

Minorites could not vote before election. They have to vote on the day of election. I think they do need ID because a person can vote twice and can lead to Election fraud.
