Affirmative action are programs that were designed to sneek out, hire, and promote qualified minority workers. Diversity is a group of people who are different race and have different culture. The differences between diversity and affirmative action is that affirmative action is trying to make a diversity in the economy. I didn't even start thinking about which college to go to. But if I were, I would consider diversity.

Well stated.
DeleteI didn't think of diversity either when considering colleges.

DeleteWell thought out response, this response makes clear of what Affirmative action and Diversity is. Very well Done..........TapaN

DeleteVictor C :
ReplyDeleteAffirmative action is a policy that favors minorities or the less fortunate when citizens are looking for a job or college. It helps when their is a vast diversity between people applying for the same position. No i don't consider diversity.
DeleteIs an action or policy favoring those who tend to suffer from discrimination, most likely in a relationship of employment or education. The word diversity means to me variety. Diversity is different people and affirmative action is an act that is there for diversity. Yes i do consider diversity because i would like to talk to other about their cultures and their traditions and values.
ReplyDeleteManny Pacquiao
I agree with all but I wouldn't want to talk to others about their culture, kinda personal.
Delete-Dat Ly
I think learning about others cultures and traditions are very important to learn about in college also.- Tashia
DeleteWOW GREAT RESPOND. AYE
DeleteI still am unsure what affirmative action is so I cant give you a good guess to what it is. Diversity is like the mixture of races like when someone says "SciTech is a diverse school." they are saying we have a good mix of many races at the school. I guess.
ReplyDelete-Seihrahbi
its basically giving minorities a job opportunity simply for being a minority...orrion
DeleteGreat job Orrion and I agree with your definition. Especially when you say 'job opportunity'. That's exactly what it is...a job 'opportunity' rather than simply giving them a job because they are a minority.
DeleteAffirmative action is the requirement of having at least one minority interviewed for a job. Affirmative action leads to diversity so they are not the same thing. I do think about diversity, by deciding to not waste time thinking about it and just jump to looking at HBCUs since I know the group of people that go to schools like that.

DeleteI do like your response in Affirmative action but you didn't actually clarify what Diversity is. All in all it was good response..TapaN
DeleteAffirmative action is working with other people to help discrimination. Affirmative action is to provide job opportunities to at least one minorities . Diversity is a large group of people with different ethic group. Diversity means its a large group of people with different ethnicity hanging on same place, affirmative action helps minorities to get a job or proper education. Yes i do consider diversity when thinking about college plans TapaN
ReplyDeleteI Agree with you- Ganga

ReplyDeleteAffirmative action is a policy favoring those who tend to suffer from discrimination in employment or education; positive discrimination. Diversity means there's a variety of different things. Affirmative action and diversity are different because affirmative action only focuses on education and employment, while diversity can be focused on many different things.
Yes, I consider diversity when thinking about what college I want to attend because I want to be around different kinds of people and learn more about different things.
I agree with you and know i know what affirmative action is. -saf
DeleteI like your definition of affirmative action
Delete-Seihrahbi Angela
Agreed ~Leah
DeleteI think Affirmative action is allowing minorities to have an equal chance to compete in the work place. I could be wrong though don't quote me. Diversity is different back rounds , races , religions and customs. I think because of diversity affirmative action is in place. I didn't think about diversity and in college but im sure there will because there will be people from all walks of life.
ReplyDelete---- fab
I Agree -Ganga
DeleteI think that affirmative action is when you take action in a very affirmative way. I think that diversity is when there is a variation of different things or it means that its a type of segregation. They are different because one is affirmative and the other is a diversity also one means taking action and the other is segragation.
ReplyDelete-AAmiR
You just used the word in the definition of the same word. Really?
Delete-Dat Ly
A'mir,
DeleteI like your thoughts but can you explain when you say, 'take action in a very affirmative way'. What does affirmative mean to you?
AYE
ReplyDeleteI think affirmative action is something which is positive discrimination related to employment or education. Diversity is a group of people from different races and background come together and achieve one goal. Diversity is a people from different places and affirmative action is the action people give each other in the work environment. i think about the diversity because when you are working or studying you need all kind of people so you wont be nervous.
'positive discrimination' is an interesting term!
DeleteAffirmative action is regarding to equal access to higher education for minorities. Diversity is having a mixture of people with different ethnicity and races all working together as one or living in one community. diversity is working together or living together while affirmative action is minorities getting higher education. Yes, I do consider diversity when thinking about what colleges I want to attend. The more diverse the college is the better it will be. ~Leah
ReplyDeleteYou make a good point leah. -saf
DeleteYou are correct! Affirmative action applies to education and employment!
Deleteagreed I would hate to go to a college that isn't diverse because it seem like they wouldn't accept me.
Delete--- fab
I personally don't know what affirmative action is. I believe diversity is different races, religions and or anything that makes people who they are individually. I have no idea how diversity and affirmative action are different from one another. Why would I think about diversity when applying to college? But i did have to write an essay about schools, and I realize that every school website talks about diversity and how it can help us. -Saf
ReplyDeleteYou explained the two words very well. -Raven
DeleteYeah I don't really see where the comparison comes in between affirmative action and diversity either. - Tashia
DeleteI agree and great point! Is diversity only about race or can diversity mean other things (like religion, sex, etc..) too?
DeleteAffirmative action creates equal opportunity for everyone to have a shot at different jobs. Diversity is when a community is mixed with all different type of people, races, and backgrounds. I think these are two very different things for many reasons. Affirmative action does not treat everyone equally it treats people like they are disadvantaged. ~ Uriel
ReplyDeleteI think affirmative action means equal access to education, I think it applies to jobs and other things as well. Diversity means a variety of different things. Affirmative action is different because it focuses on changing the many disadvantages groups have. Diversity creates an environment that everyone and every group can fit in. -Raven
ReplyDeleteI think that affirmative action is a action that help people who suffer from discrimination. It's an action that help people get the help they deserve. I think that diversity is the state of having people different races or different cultures. I think that affirmative action and diversity are different because affirmative action for African American and diversity for all minority.
