Angelina Jolie and Jeffery traveled through Africa seeing the painful life of people living in poverty. They showed how horrible it is to live in a extreme poverty, not have enough food supplies to live, not be able to go the good hospital, no schools and no clean water. They reminded us how true hungry feels like. This video made me very sad but it also inspire me to help the people who live in extreme poverty. I would do the best i can to help these people.
The people walk long distances for fresh water even kids go get the water too. Kids are undernourished because they don't have enough to eat. Conditions of the hospital is scary , there is no clean water and there is only one doctor. Patients are piled in rooms and share beds. It's very sad that even if these people wanted to get better they don't have the proper care to and that hospital is there only option. This was back and 2005 I feel like in ten years we could have gotten way further with ending poverty.
You've some very good points, i liked how well detailed your response is and i though we would be way further in ending poverty too but nothing much happened after 5 years.. TapaN........
Angelina Jolie and Dr.Jeffery Sachs take a trip to Nairobi, Africa to see the conditions of extreme poverty in Africa. They drive down the road to instantly see the effects that extreme poverty has on the village. They meet children who are shorter than other kids their age because of the chronic event of malnutrition. I don't have much of a reaction because I've seen this before, and we've been talking about it and going over it for a couple days now. however it's obviously sad to see that sick children are sharing beds with other sick children, and there is one doctor looking over 300 patients a day. -Orrion
I seen the clip before with Angelina Jolie and how she was part of the program. She went though the village and experienced life through their eyes. The placed she visited were in severe poverty. Hospitals and other places lack basic needs such as water. People were packed in one room with other severe disease which could of eventually lead to a bigger problem.
I personally think the video twas amazing and how it could teach not even adolescents but adults who have the power to stop severe poverty. -Saf
What really stood our to me were two things. The chronic undernourishment and the state of the hospital. One doctor for every 300 people is scary. I hope that we can find specific solutions to solve these problems. We are all one human race and I feel we should consider doing whatever we can to help our fellow man. I was listening to a song last night called 'War' by Bob Marley. In the song, he said that we really need to make an effort to end war or war will occur everywhere. This reminded me of our priorities in our country. Are we going to focus on war or peace? And, why do we base part of our economy on war and war machines?
A key point that I found to be important from the video clip is when the doctor, Jeffrey, said the kids were small/short for their age because they were malnourished. Also when there was only one doctor for over 300 kids. Both of those key points stood out to me because its just interesting/sad to learn about their conditions.
I wonder why there was only one doctor.. I know he couldn't be the only one certified for the job. Now I see why so many children are dying early because they don't receive the care they need.
The video that we watch in class was about Angelina Jolie and a man name Sachs who travel to Kenya and other parts of Africa to see and observe extreme poverty. What they saw was that there was little children with malnutrition, very little crops for the community that farmers were growing. They also saw that the soil was very dry, so not many crops could grow there. This was very sad to see and very depressing to those people who never saw something like this. Manuel Valera
In the video Angie went to see how bad poverty in Africa was and wanted to know if there was a way to help countries in Africa that have extreme poverty. When she went there she sees how bad it was in the extreme poverty places. When she went there she saw very small children and a bunch of sick people in hospitals that can't be taken care of. -Ammir
Extreme poverty expert Sachs and actor Angelina Jolie traveled to see what life was like in other places. As they expected there would be it was extreme poverty in the village. The kids were poorly malnourished and a lot of them were very small because of this. In this place in Africa there are a lot of people who don't have basic care. The crops that were not growing correctly because the soil and fertilizer was poor quality which caused the crops to be uneven. ~ Uriel
In the video it talked about extreme poverty and some of the hardships that comes with it. Crops were not growing like they could of because of the lack of fertile soil. Also it showed many little kids who were small due to malnourishment. One thing that really stood out to me is that Jolie said "They don't know what their life is and they don't understand what they don't have". This statement makes me feel sad because its hard to see little children struggling with extreme poverty. Lastly another thing that caught my attention was when they said there is only one doctor in a ran down hospital that cares for about 300 people..
AYE LWINOO This videos was bascically about how Angelia visited Africa and she saw how people of Africa are struggling to survival for their live. Also in Africa they do not have base things that they needed for daily use like water and medical care. this is really sad to see how people in Africa are struggling for their lives and don't even made 1 dollars per day. People are extreme poverty in Africa and rich nations should help the poor countries.
Having Angelie Jolie visit these children must have been very surprising for them, to see someone so different. Yet then again, they don't have tv to know who she is
The most obvious message from watching the clip was that many of these people are missing things that we consider to be basic, and standards of living. What is expected to be the cleanest area, was no more hygienic than an average public restroom in the United States. As the sole doctor of the hospital expressed "sometimes you leave sicker than you were" this is because the hospital was a cesspool of germs and diseases- Victor
The video we watched today the the class is about poverty in Africa. Angelina Jolie went to Africa with a doctor. When she got there, she was shock by how African people were living. The children are not getting bigger because they don't get enough nutrient. When she visited to hospital, there were people sharing same bed for two baby and two women. The hospital don't have clean water and they were washing the bed cover by hand. The hospital don't have the basic thing for better care. I hope this thing change in future.
The video is about Jolie going to Africa with a doctor to learn more about the extreme poverty. Sachs say facts that we already learn such as certain parts of Africa are isolated so therefore cannot trade, kids would walk barefoot to find safe drinking water, and soil are bad for farming. What he also said that I haven't learn is that kids are short due to not having enough nutrition and the hospitals they went don't have basic need. How I feel about this is how are they going to improve the issue? We just saw a small clip about it. I wonder when was this made and was this ever a show on tv?
Angelina Jolie has made a few trips to different parts of Africa with a very educated doctor. During her trips she has seen the worst poverty situations that there could be. In Sari hospitals have patients struggling for their life with no clean water. There are on average 300 people coming into hospitals with only one doctor available to help them. People with Malaria is sharing rooms with people infected with pnemonia and diseases are getting spread from left to right. Children there are so small because they are malnourished. Farmers can barely keep thier crops alive and provide adequate amounts of food to thier village because the soils have lost all of thier nutrients. To see young children struggling to survive everyday whether from contracting a disease or starving really makes me absurd because here i am throwing away pounds of rice, steak, and ground beef away at my job when O can be sending it to them. I want to go to Africa and help out in thier village. Whether its buying seeds that will help thier soil flourish, or donate whatever clothes and shoes i have to the children. Or just buying food and watch the smiles that spread on thier face. There's more than enough money to help those in dire need, so why aren't we? - Taryana Peterson
The video was about how Angelina Joelie went to small villages to experience the life of extreme poverty. She was astonished at the fact that the kids high hopes and dreams but unfortunately they one day will realize their own reality. Extreme poverty is having a hospital with maybe 300 people and only one doctor. Also having many short children that have chronic undernourishment which means they are short because the generations before them didn't get the nutrients they needed.
My reaction is that I cannot even imagine going to the hospital with that many people with all different diseases. It extremely sad that that don't have the basic needs like clean water in their hospital ~Leah
In the video clip it talked about starvation and the basic necessities many people in Africa need but do not have. While Jolie and Sachs visit Africa they explore the hospital and it reveals many dangerous things that needs fixed to keep people from getting sick and or suffering further. In addition, it also mentions how rich countries turn their heads to the ever-lasting poverty in Africa.
I wonder how many people in America must feel to watch a video like this and not want to give something to help Africa? -Raven
Many kids in the village from the video was undernourished and had diseases. The crops in the village were uneven and not healthy because the dirt in the ground doesn't have much soil left. The kids are able to get a free meal during school to help them concentrate better. The hospitals don't even have water and only had one doctors for a hospital that can have 300 patients. I believe that the video was obviously sad and I do believe that we can stop it from happening anymore. -Geraldine

I agree, I thought it was crazy how they only had one doctor for so many people and we complain about the "long" wait in the hospitals.
