Student Input: What would you like to learn about 9/11?

As we approach the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, one wonders what we can learn from it.   What can we gain from revisiting this horrific day?  Your teacher is unsure so he's tapping the brains of you, his students.  What do you think we can focus on that will allow us to learn from the event of 9/11?  Write a five sentence paragraph here expressing your thoughts on this topic.
Before typing your response, put your name and period in parenthesis i.e. (Paul Del Priore, Period 1).

The event of 9/11 was tragic and many individuals had lost their loved ones and those close to them but unfortunately, I immigrated to the United States few days after 9/11 had occured. As much as I want to know, none of the teachers at New York felt comfortable talking about it so I have no general background of what 9/11 is about. However, I did go online and did some research and found out that the airplane was planned to attack the world trade center and I heard it has something to do with terrorism. Also, this national crisis had left many people the devastating thoughts that their government were responsible and that this event shouldn't have happened. I, would also like to know more of 9/11 in depth as it is something every American should recognize and sympathize for.

The tragic even of 9/11 still to this day gives the nation many mixed feelings. It is unfortunate that every year there is time of rememberance that brings up those feelings. Still there are some things that burden the everyday life of those who question this event. For myself, I would like one general question answered, it being, if airplanes can be tracked by rader(or whichever type of technology used to find the coordinates of a plane)was it possible to see this particular airplane going off track in the air? That is something I would like to know more about, ground to air contact.

I think that there is a lot that we could still learn about 9/11. Most of us were only around six years old when the event occurred, so we probably don't remember all of the details very well. I think we should focus on learning about what happened directly before and after the attack. How long did it take them to find out what was happening and to respond? I also think we should learn if there was any indication that an event like this would occur.

I think we should focus on learning what exactly happened during the attack and what was done after by the government. Many of us were still young at that time and don't remember how horrific 9/11 was. I think also at that time a lot of the information wasn't given out and much was covered up. We should focus on the truth and people that survived testimonies. I think from this we can be more educated about a historic event like 9/11.

I think we should look at the past to fix our future. We should go back to that horrifying day and go over every single piece of evidence that we have left and find our mistakes. When we know what we did wrong we can fix it in the future.we should get nation wide help out our next move so it doesn't end up like our past. We need to learn from our past to have a better future. In short I want to learn why the government was more involved during the hijackings and why wasn't there better security in the airport.

I think that we should focus on the families that were directly affected by this tragety. They are the ones who are having the hardest time with what happened. I also think that we should bring out the truth about what really happened on 9/11. There is tons of evidence that this tragedy was a goverment conspiracy. If it was than the familes and we as americans deserve the truth.

9/11 was such a horrifying tragedy. Many people were affected by this event and people today are still being affected by it. I think we should focus on the impact 9/11 gave to all of us. 9/11 was also before all of our time and we were very young when this occurred. So I think we should learn the basics of what happened that day and why.

  9. I agree with olivia and brittonea. I think we should focus on what actually happen and how the families felt about this tragedy. I have a magazine on some of the children and their thoughts about what happen to their parents and I will be able to bring it in on Monday.

  10. I read Quan Lu comment and i definitely agree with him. Its been over seven years since i have been here, And i still unsure about the whole 9/11 event. As much as i know, it was a horrified event for everyone. So i think we should focus on what was going on, why and Basically on everything.

I really don't want to learn about 9/11 personally. I have my own opinion towards this tragic event and I am quite skeptical on some of the events that took place prior to this. I would like to learn about the governments reactions, however only to further develop my opinion on this situation. I do empathize for everyone that was lost in the cause, however I show no sympathy towards our government. On another note I have studied this event and looked into many different conspiracies and theories that have been presented so I would like to see what our class comes up with. I understand my role as a student and my approach towards this lesson will be passive and I would like to learn what YOU have to provide.

I feel as though as a class we should watch a clip of what events happend that day. Then afterwards we should discuss about how we feel about the events that transpired and the questions we have about the event. If we do this then the class will have a good understanding about 9/11.

I believe that the most important thing that we learned from this experience is that we become alive in a time of fear. It taught us to value the things and people that are around us. The second most important thing that we can focus on is that this event has not brought us down, but has made us stronger. Many people view this day as a day of grief. It should be viewed as a time that has made our country stronger.

The events of September 11, 2001 were severely tragic. Those that were in and around the towers or in the hijacked planes lost their lives and their loved ones suffered terribly. This is also something that teaches lessons and injects fear. Since 9/11, airplane security has been bumped to astounding conditions because of the fear of terrorism and other anti-terrorist movements have been made. We need to make sure pilots and their passengers are protected, but try to control our anti-terrorist tactics and ideas.

Personally, I don't want to talk about what actually happened on 9/11 because we have all heard the story many times. I think we should talk about. I would like to know how things were before, during and after 9/11 in Afganistan. Did the country change? What was the main goal of al-Qaeda? Why did they hit New York City instead of our Capital? What is Afganistan like 10 years after 9/11. I think it would be good to learn not just what happened in America, but overseas too.

I don't really believe that we can learn much about 9/11, but can be acknowledged about how the Americans and the families that had lost their loved ones are effected by this tragic event. The main thing for us to focus on, is the conditions that these people were in, and their surroundings. I somewhat do believe that students should at least know what I had taken place, because this event is a historic one, and will always be remember whether we want to or not. Students should know if this event was planned, who was on the plane, how many people had died because of this event, who was behind this, etc...

9/11 was a very sad day that should have never happened. Many people had died due to the plane crashes. I believe that we should get together as a whole and reflect on how many people have past away. This day have given me a new appreciation for the heroes that went in and saved as many people as they could. Therefore I believe that we should take the time every year to thank the local firemen and police officers for doing their jobs in saving us. I do not think we show enough appreciation to them.

There are many things that we can learn from the 9/11 experience. 9/11 was a sad day for most people in the united states. People lost family members and very close friends. One thing that we can learn from never take anything for granted, you never know what is going to happen in life. You can mess up one thing and something bad can happen. Never take life for granted trust me when I say this anything can happen, Anything. I also learned that after that day we have a bunch more heroes in the world. We need to appreciate the people who saved their lives such as firefighters and police officers who were doing their job. Today we need to show respect to each and everyone of the heroes and survivors of 9/11.

Something that we can gain from this horrific day is that no matter what people try to do to out country, they cannot kill our spirit. We should focus on the fact that these were innocent people who were killed, and do whatever we need to do for those families instead of just paying our love and respects.Everytime I think of 9/11 I think of horrific events and people who did nothing wrong, got their lives taken from them. So to change that into more positive things I think of what we should do, like instead of waiting ten years we should always do something every month just to pay tribute, I feel it's a duty to do so. 9/11 has to be taught in schools so kids can know the fighting spirit that our country has will always live on, just like it did on the darkest day in our nation's history.

I think the main thing we can gain from exploring this would be an understanding of other cultures. Many think the culture those responsible belong to is entirely responsible, when it is only the extremists who actually take it this far. In addition, it was a rare time when the ENTIRE nation banded together to help each other. That doesn't happen very often, and it may be interesting to see other times when this has, or hasn't but should have, happened. Other than that, I don't think there is too much else to learn from such a horrific event.

Learning about September Eleventh, I am interested in topics such as what is the real reason behind why American experienced a terrorist attack? What did we do as Americans to deserved innocent people’s lives to be lost? I would like to learn how all the animosity occurred between these two nations and how it got so bad that we could not make a compromise. Other topics I would like to cover is how long did it take to identify all the people who lost their lives and what are all the preventions we take now reassure something like this has a low chance of happening again. I feel all these questions will be essential to learning because they can layout the story in a systematic way and give details about how this event has made our nation even stronger today. To see the progression of where we were and where we are now shows tremendous growth and that we will live on as a nation.

  23. I think that I have experienced 9/11 enough. My aunt Patrice Jones died in 9/11. Loosing her was one of the reasons why I had to move here. Without her, my older brothers and sisters and I, didn’t have the means to take care of us. My aunt Peggy tried hard but nothing kept us sane with the exception of my aunt. I have never been to any of the memorials other than when it was first put up. The pain is too much to bear. It hurts even more to see that people don’t know how it really feels to experience such a tragedy.

The event that occurred on 9/11 was horrific and a national disaster. I believe as a nation we can now focus on handling national crisis' such as this one better by always being prepared for the worst. Our government needs to be ready at all times. Unfortunately, this event was the outcome of clueless behavior that could have been prevented by appropriate procedures. Therefore, Our government should become more alert for the safety of the people.

My input on developing more knowledge on the 9/11 is to get behind the scene. I want to know more about why this tragic happened. When I say behind the scene I'm talking the master of plan and how it was organized and why wasn't it detected. I also want to get the feel of the event happening and what was America's thoughts on revenge or peace.
