Reliable Sources?

Write seven lines about the following:

There’s plenty of information available on the web.  Some of it’s legitimate, some of it is not.  What are reputable (or reliable) sources?  How does one know when a source is reputable (reliable) or not?  What are the suffixes at the end of a website that tend to produce more reputable sources?  Why are reputable sources important?  Why do you think that the quality of a given source matters?  Also, reply to two other people for credit.

  1. The internet is full of content but not all of it can be trusted. Malicious information is often posted to make the web host some profit. This is known as clickbait. Regardless, knowing the difference between reliable websites and bad ones is a skill we should all learn in the 21st century. A good legitimate source can provide you with factual information that can be supported with facts and published sources. On the other hand, an unreliable website will not provide this.

  2. Reliable sources are usually websites that end in .gov or even .org. The information on them are an organization that has information that is approved. Even websites that end in .edu are good websites to used because that means that it is a college or some school that most likely did research or an experiment on the subject in order to get the information that was given.~Leah

A reputable source can be a person or document that supplies information or the place something originates. Usually you can tell when a source is reputable because there will be facts/dates/things to back up the information. I think reputable sources are important because there has to be somewhere where you can get the right information and feel comfortable with the information. The quality of a given source really matters.

It's true there are many websites in this advance world but, some of them are legitimate and some of them are not. you have to be very careful visiting that illegitimate websites because some of them are scheme and do not do any survey if they want you to. But there are some websites who have suffixes like, .org, .com, .gov and .net are very informational and very legitimate.

  5. You can tell if a website is reliable by its ending such as.org .gov .edu .mil these endings are organizations, government, education and military. There are others but information is coming from the government and the military chances are it is very reliable. Some resources may not be reliable because people can go on the site and change the content or someone can make their own website without any credible information. This happens on Wikipedia some times that's why teacher don't recommend you to use it often.

There are lots of website on the web that are reliable but some are just fake information. If you see a web address that end with .gov and .org, you can trust them because its government and organization website. You could also trust some website that end with .com but it not always 100% accurate. The reputable sources are important because it gives the the right information you need instated of wrong information.

  7. Reputable sources are website that are highly known to have reliable information. Suffixes that tend to produce more reputable sources are .org .gov .edu .net . Reputable sources are important for research papers because you want to have the right information to express your opinion. The quality of the given source either proves your point or make it a total mess. It really does matter to have good sources to prove your point.

  9. A lot of info put on the internet is not actually reliable. A lot of people on the internet give false info and others just lie. Reliable websites are those that end with certain suffixes. Those suffixes are ones like ".org" or ".gov". Most websites on the internet end with ".com". This does not mean they're not reliable, but it does mean that you should be careful when taking information from these sites. ~ Uriel

  10. A reputable source is source that is trustworthy and is in respectable usage. One way you could tell if a website is credible or not is to look at the domain. If a source has the domain .gov, .net, or . org it's more credible than .com. Another way you could tell if a source is credible or not would be to look at the writing style because poor grammar and spelling can indicate that the source may not be credible.

  11. I think that a reliable source is very important because it is basically telling you that the information that is on its website is all 100% true and up to date. If you want to know which one is different from reliable and unreliable, just look for one that says (.org), (.gov), or (.edu) and all of those are reliable. A unreliable source is something that says (.com) like a wiki which is a very unreliable resource.

  12. Obviously you can tell if a source is not legitimate, it will be giving you false information. You can check by contacting the information provided by the website like emails, numbers, etc.. Reading the website and making sure the pictures are up to date and are related to the topic of the website. Also reading the terms and conditions to verify that make sense. The endings that contain .org, .com, etc.. -Raven

  13. Online resources that you can rely on are websites that keep their information up to date. Also, websites that site their sources they have use. Most commercial websites are not reliable, but there are some like history.com. The ending of every website tells you their purpose for being on the web. Reputable sources are important because it gives you correct information. The quality matters because you want the website to give you the most they can about the topic.
