YGYW FALL 2014 - SEARCHING FOR BEN FRANKLIN AND OUR TRIP TO THE CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE.

George Washington used this chair for nearly three months of the Federal Convention's continuous sessions. James Madison reported Benjamin Franklin saying, "I have often looked at that behind the president without being able to tell whether it was rising or setting. But now I... know that it is a rising...sun."

The trip to Philadelphia to see the National Constitution Center, Liberty Bell and Independence Hall was a good and fun experience. The people that worked there really taught me stuff about the history of the civil war that I did not learn in class. It helped me get a better understanding by going into the actual settings such as the court rooms. Before going on the trip, I was not excited and thought it was going to be boring. On the way home, I felt relieved and had a great time.

The trip to Philadelphia to see the Constitution Center, Liberty Bell, and Independence Hall gave me a better understanding of our democracy and country because I physically went to see these places and it got me engaged in the learning. I learned about how the Founding Fathers signed the U.S Constitution and how it is important to this day. Overall, the trip made it a motivating new learning experience with the activities that were offered there too.

Visiting Philadelphia on National Constitution Day definitely helped contributed to a better understanding of the importance for our democracy and our country. In the National Constitution Center, I read the beginnings of this country and a lot of events that greatly molded this country. For example, abolishing slavery, the creations of the amendments and individuals who helped United States become a better country. A lot of true heroes, like Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman, Abe Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Franklin D. Roosevelt were acknowledged in that buildings as well. After we visited the National Constitution center, we had the opportunity to take a tour of the actual Independence Hall. The instructor gave an informal introduction on when, why and who founded the building. Then we went to the building itself and was able to be in the same room the founding fathers established the back bone of this country in, the Constitution. On our last stop, we visited the liberty bell and that's when the reality of all events learned that day sunk in. Seeing the bell in person and learning about it, makes you honestly appreciate the hardships the founding fathers had to endure to base this country off liberty and democracy.

The trip to Philly helped me learn more about the country and democracy because it was very hands on. The assignment we had to do actually made us engage in what the walls and artifacts had written on them. Also the center, hall, and bell had a lot of visuals that were very interesting to watch. In the Independence Hall our guide included a lot of interesting facts about the process of writing the Constitution. The trip was very educational and the activities were very helpful in my understanding of the whole process.

The trip to the constitution center and other monumental places around philadelphia allowed us to not only gain a better understanding of our democracy but also a better felling and mind set of what it actually is . We learn a lot of stuff in school but we learn about all this stuff out of books and what we are taught. The trip enabled us to get a better feeling of what we are really learning about in school and what its all about. I think it gave me more appreciation for our country and democracy .Also to see how much people really appreciate our country and how we build monuments ,statues, museums no matter how big or small to show how far we have come as a country.

The trip to West Philadelphia, where i was born and raise gave me a better understanding of democracy and our country because their were actually people there willing to teach us. People that are educated on the specific topics, such as the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall were gracefully helping me out. Everything i needed to know about democracy or events carried in our country their was a tour guide always to be found. Besides the tour guides, their were several posters along the walls of the Constitution Center that were a great help. The overall experience was great and a perfect help to further on education on democracy and our country.

The trip to Philadelphia helped me get a better understanding of how the Constitution was written. It also taught me how important it was for the United States beat the British. I learned about history of inventions that started here. I also saw where the Founding fathers signed the US Constitution.

The trip to Philadelphia helped me gain better understanding of the country in many ways. One way the trip helped me because it broke down the events and the key figures that made those events possible. Another way the trip helped me because it made a fun experience instead of straight book work. The trip also was a way for me to learn the democratic experiences. I liked the trip in many ways.

The trip to Philly helped me understand how the constitution formed our country. I learned that without the constitution there would be no government at all. I thought the constitution was a place, but after the trip I learned that it is a document that was signed by a group of men in the year of 1787. I really enjoyed the trip because I would rather experience the learning rather than Mr. Del Priore teaching it. I also liked how the tour people actually seemed like they wanted to help us better understand the constitution and the things it brought to our country. I did not learn much from the liberty bell and did not like it. I did not like it because it looked fake.

The trip to Philadelphia helped me gain a more understanding stand point of how our country worked backed then. On the trip I liked how they broke down key events and explained them to the students on the trip. I really enjoyed seeing how the court room looked back then and you can compared them with the ones we have today. I seen how the prisoner was kept in a small caged like box inside the court and I also saw the pens they had to right with. It was very nice that they still have the Independence hall still up and in good shape. I just think that it was a good experience to actually see how people did things back then and they should continue to have those tours to keep spreading the knowledge to the world.

The trip to Philly allowed me to see the overall outlook of what the founding fathers had to go through to establish the United States. It allowed me to see many hardships they had to face. When we arrived at the Constitutional Hall, questions and questions raced through my head. Seeing the actual chair that George Washington sat in made me realize he was definitely the guy in charge. I could now see that the Declaration of Independence was not an easy paper to be signed. For a lot of thought and appreciation had to go in it for it to be thoughtful and sincere for the fellow citizens. As I saw the liberty bell I began to appreciate the things the founding fathers did for us. Even though a lot in our democracy is still being written. what was solid ground was a good way to start.

The trip to Philadelphia helped me better understand how and why the constitution was written. Without it the United States would never be formed. The tour of the room where our country was created was especially memorable to me. George Washington's chair represented the sunrise and the beginning of the United States. Seeing the liberty bell made me want to ring it, but it said "Do not touch". The trip made me appreciate everything about being in the US.

The trip to Philadelphia was very exciting. There was things that I had not seen before like the Independence hall, the famous chair and Benjamin Franklin and his wife’s tombstone. The interesting part about the chair was that no one was sure whether the sun on that chair was rising or setting. We also got to see the tombstone of Benjamin Franklin and his wife. He died in April 17 1790, when he was 84 years old. His coffin was carried by the citizenry of Philadelphia. Dignitaries. Deborah Read Franklin, Benjamin Franklin’s wife died in December, 19, 1774. She died because she had a stroke. Her body was buried in Philadelphia, next to Benjamin Franklin’s after he died. The trip was a very exciting opportunity to learn new things.

When we went to Philadelphia to see the National Constitution Center, Liberty Bell, and Independence Hall, it helped me gain a better understanding of our democracy and our country. It showed me a lot about the constitution and it's past. It also showed me why we should be proud of our country. I loved the experience of being able to see the hall and the chair our first president, George Washington sat in. The trip also allowed me to founding fathers had to go through to establish the United States. It allowed me to see and experience the many obstacles and trials that our founding fathers had to go through to establish the U.S. That experience helped give me a better understanding of our country as well as our democracy. The trip to Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love, was exciting and intriguing. It definitely helped me get a better idea of our country and its democracy. We went to see the Independence Hall and saw the chair with the rising sun. For a long time it had been questioned whether the sun was rising or setting, but now we know that it is a rising sun for ours is a rising country. It is a symbol that we have succeeded in forming a stable democracy. We also went to see the Independence National Historic Park. There we saw the liberty bell. The bell was the symbol of our country; to show how liberal and accepting we are as a country. Being able to physically experience the history of our country was amazing and enlightening.

Our trip to Philadelphia to see the National Constitution Center, Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, helped me better understand our past as a country. It showed where the liberty bell came from and where the slaves were kept at. It showed how we as a country grew because of the many different people who decided to take a stand and change the world. It explained in depth what each person had done and it showed each of the laws and rules. Lastly, when we took a tour I learned about where the first president sat and how they came up with different solutions to help the problems that went on in the world. Overall it was a great experience and I learned a lot about the past of our country.

The trip to Philly was an amazing and exciting way to learn about the start of the United States. It was way better then you teaching us by packets and slides. This taught me more about when the U.S constitution was written. Also what all went into making it. That sun on the back of George Washington's chair was a symbolic way of showing the rising of a great and powerful nation. We went into the constitution center which was amazing because it pretty cool to see the constitution all spread out the way that it was. My favorite part of being there was when we went into the theater and we learned about our country. Next we went to see the liberty bell which was cool even though I thought it was placed somewhere else. Lastly we saw independence hall which was a pretty interesting experience because we saw the place where history was made.

The Philadelphia trip was a great experience. I honestly think I understand history more when I can interact with it or witness it. The museum had so many facts about the beginnings of the constitution and the growth of the 50 states. My favorite part was seeing the liberty bell. I always heard about the bell but I never saw it until then. Knowing the powerful history behind our country makes me proud to be an American citizen. Whats unique about the whole trip is that we were able to relive some of the events that took place during the 1780s. Ever since the trip I think I have a pretty thorough understanding of democracy and our country, I hope we can go on more fun interactive trips in the future.

Our trip to Philadelphia to see the National Constitution Center (NCA), Liberty Bell, and Independence Hall helped me gain a better understanding of our democracy and our country. In the NCA, much information about the importance of democracy and information about our country as a whole was relayed to us visitors. I received information in relation to our founding fathers, the U.S. Constitution, and other important documents. At Independence Hall, I got a brief understanding as to many important events that occurred in our history. Overall, I enjoyed our trip to Philadelphia and value the information that I picked up at various locations.

My trip to Philly was quite interesting. I came with little knowledge about the three events and left with a million of new facts about it. The places we stopped helped me gain knowledge of our government and democracy. There were too much going on that i didn't get a chance to read all of the facts. One picture that caught my eye was the one with all of the men. They all wore a wig which made them look alike and i honestly couldn't tell who was who.

The trip to Philly was interesting. It opened my eyes to things we may not be introduced to in a classroom environment. The trip to Philadelphia to the museum and other monumental places was very informational as well as interesting. It was a very good hands on experience. It gave lots of useful information and a better understanding of the nations democracy, outside of the classroom. Learning inside of the classroom is one thing but when you can actually see things for yourself right in front of you it makes things 10x's better. Also, it helped us appreciate our country more and let us see how much other people appreciate our country. Great experience.

Taking a trip to the National Constitution Center, Liberty Bell, and Independence Hall helped contribute to a better understanding of democracy and our country too. Before the trip, I knew that our democracy had rules like citizens have the right to choose their leader and everyone has civil rights. I became more informed of more rules and how democracy became what it is now. Personally, I enjoyed the Freedom Rising performance. The performance was very entertaining and gave a lot of information on the Constitution.

It made me realize why so many countries hate the United States, because we have a lot of rights/opportunities that they can't receive. The Philly trip helped me understand democracy and independence much better. It showed me that different places create their own definition of what independence was, but had the same meaning of democracy. The elected representatives in the court room we visited all had their same government, and went by the same government. The field trip also showed me that different representatives all didn't go by the something or rules. Some had different ways of approaching things. Something interesting that i saw was when a word on the liberty bell was spelled wrong.

Our trip to Philadelphia helped me understand our country a little better. After we had gotten here we made a justice system to fit our needs so that we could be happy with our lives. The monuments all where just different representations of our freedom. We had been told that the sun was rising on us which means we have a bright future.

The trip to Philadelphia allowed me to view many of our countries greater points. The most interesting thing that i believed help my understanding would be the important people "tree". The tree recognized people who help make bills, amendments, and maybe even laws that help improve our government and in effect our way of life. Sure these changes were meant for the time period they were made in but when applied to life as we know it to we can really begin to be thankful for these people for all they did. Something else that stuck with me from the trip was the tour through the court room and independence hall. It reminded that change takes time and many people. I loved the experience of being able to see where history was made. The monuments all where just different representations of our freedom that so many people had worked for.I really enjoyed going on the trip so thank you.

  37. The trip to Philadelphia gave me a different perspective on our Country. The trip taught me how important our past was and why we should always look back to it as an example. To show why we shouldn't do some things and how we could change some things in our country now. Such as foreign aid, Terrorism, and our safety and security. There was so much information about the growth and development of our 50 states and how the constitution came to be. I've never been so interested in the country's beginnings but the beginning determines the end. May we continue to have our rights for all people.

  39. I did not go on the field trip, but what I learned from the work that was left behind, Is that the National Constitutional Center is the first ever museum dedicated to the U.S Constitution. Also the Crack in the Liberty Bell is a half inch wide and 24.5 inches long. Independence Hall is the birthplace of the United States, within its walls our declaration of independence was marked.

  41. I did not go on the trip, but I did learn some things about this quote. To me I believe Ben Franklin was saying that our government and nation is moving forward and is improving. It makes me think back to the days back in the past how African americans and other minorities had no rights, but we as a nation moved forward and abolished slavery. I believe over all Ben Franklin meant our government and nation has a great future ahead.
